Our First Charity Makeover
Camp Quality is a children’s charity close to my heart. Operating since 1983, their programs create a supportive, resilient and optimistic community for families impacted by cancer. I have been a volunteer with the SA branch for many years, participating in children’s camps as a companion and as a representative for the Supper Club, along with my husband, many times.
As a new business owner, I decided I would like to give something special to them and donated a children’s bedroom makeover for their Cherry Ball to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The winning bid was made by Sandra from Ashton in the Adelaide Hills and she decided that she would like to have a room in her home transformed into a nursery for her first grandchild (a boy, due in November 2017).
After seeing the space that we had to work with and having a consultation with Sandra about her style we put together a style board for the nursery using the DIY app. We wanted to keep it gender neutral as Sandra is hoping for lots more grandchildren!
Sandra was very happy with the style, so we set a date and got to work!
Our retail partners were very supportive of this great cause and we had generous donations from Taubmans, Brosa, De Lights and Luxe Walls. With thanks also to Zanui, Natsukashi and The Block Shop for your fantastic discount!
As always the prep was first, so lots of sanding and filling, followed by painting. We used Taubmans Endure in Orchid Child for the walls and their awesome Ultimate Enamel for the trims (this is water based and semi-gloss, best of both worlds)there is nothing quite like bright white trims.
We used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on the wardrobes (Paris Grey), we LOVE Annie Sloan. The paint can be used on most surfaces and completely transforms furniture. A quick change of handles and the wardrobe looked brand new!
The Beautiful Fontaine pendant light was from De Lights as well as the Beverly Floor lamp.
The stunning wallcovering is from Luxe Walls (Stars Pattern) and provides some depth and texture to the room.
Our hero piece was the Betty Rocking chair from Brosa, the colour (Lavender) was the perfect complement for the room and the velvet fabric was divine. It brought the pop of colour we needed to give the room a focal point and is the perfect chair for both nursing, and cuddling grandchildren to sleep!
The bedding on the single bed is Natsukashi’s Rotnest Island single linen quilt cover and pillowcase. Natsukashi’s 100% pure linen is ethically sourced, then designed and crafted in house in western Australia.
The beautiful Lillu handmade circular rug is from Zanui and the quintessential print for any nursery, a Mrs Mighetto (Mr Bill) from The Block Shop.
